Challenges to Student Success Survey

Athabasca University Research Study - The purpose of this invitation is to inform you of a project to survey students regarding challenges they experience in their learning.

The Research:

We are conducting a study: Challenges to Student Success and you are invited to participate. The perspectives that you provide on your learning challenges and peer mentoring will help us to develop a peer mentoring program. You have been identified by Access to Students with Disabilities (ASD) at Athabasca University as a student with a disability and we are specifically looking for the perspectives of students with disabilities. Although ASD is involved in the research they will not be provided with information as to who participates in the research.

Participants in the study will be completing an online survey that will ask you questions about challenges you experience in your learning, supports you might find helpful, and your perspective on peer e-mentoring. The survey will take you about 40 – 50 minutes to complete.

Confidentiality:

The survey does not ask for your name or any identifying information. The researchers interacting with the data will only see anonymous data. The results of this study may be reported in academic journal articles or at a conference. No identifying information will be provided. Your anonymity is assured.

Risks and benefits:

There are no risks to participating in this research. The research may benefit other students if the data is used to develop a peer mentoring program to support students experiencing learning challenges.

Confidentiality, data retention and destruction:

Digital files for this research will be stored on the FHSS faculty server at Athabasca University. This computer is password protected and encrypted, and is located in a secure location at the university. Only the researcher and the web architect will be able to see the data at any point in time. The data will be kept in this manner for a minimum of five years before it is deleted.
